aka, "The Snowbeast" (on winter tires, snow cannot stop it. It's better than a Range Rover...I checked) has what may be the most ridiculously powerful and cold A/C in the history of cars.
I know everyone is freaking out because the polar ice caps are melting and I just wanted everyone to know they can relax. We can take this thing to the South Pole at anytime, and I'll just let it idle, roll the windows down and set it to MAX A/C. The only real danger is triggering a new ice age.

American cars have great A/Cs - I'm so jealous. My Toyota and Mazda have acceptable A/Cs.
My BMW has the worst A/C ever in the history of the world.

Ford has always had awesome A/C. Not sure why. My Crown Vic was so cold my glasses would always fog up when I got out of the car.

Wow. You have a Taurus?!

My E3 that was still running on R12 was cold as anything. My E39 was horrible though

Mine's an '01 Z3.
A/C is a serious fail.
But DAMN the heat is good. Possibly the best heat I have ever experience in a car. I feel like I'm racing F1.

My new Benz is mediocre at best. Compared to this 10 year old Taurus, it's like turning on a ceiling fan vs taking shots of pure liquid nitrogen

my W210 is cold as it needs to be...A/C is getting worse instead of better. My Roadmaster estate would freeze your balls if it was set to LO

Agreed. HVAC is one area where American cars have never had to apologize.

tell me more about your z3. Love it? Hate it? Mini review?

It even has it's own theme song: "snowbeast. snowbeast... snowbeast.. snowbeast"

If I parked in a sunny parking lot and fell asleep, I would be the first person to die of hypothermia in a car in September in Maryland.

my BMW SUCKS in hot weather, it may be because it's dark gray on black, not tinted, and usually parked outside.
Heat on the other hand.... I could comfortable have the seat heater in the lowest setting with low heat and be totally fine in single digit wind chills.. After the car sat outside all night.

Yep, can confirm from an old Taurus similar to the above, a couple of Rangers, F150s and a Windstar (*shudder*, not from the A/C). Each of those had supremely effective A/C systems, regardless of other faults those vehicles had, though the newer trucks which I've yet to have an issue with.

oh god, yeah good thing you have it like that then. I have never felt humidity like DC in August. Even close to the equator

Attend the University of Miami for four years. Compared to that, DC is like Finland.

Love driving it. It's similar in handling feel to my NC Miata. Torque is great. Really great. But note that I have the 3.0i engine, which is quite a bit snappier than any of the non-M models. I will say that if I had a model with one of the 2.5L or smaller engines, I probably wouldn't like it nearly as much.
Things I hate about it - build quality is terrible. Door lock cylinders, interior panels, buttons, seatbelt retractors, radio, speakers, etc. etc. etc. everything is falling apart, and I'm a gentle owner by anyone's standards.
Body flex is quite noticeable.
But a fun and reliable car! And, personally, I love the look.

Had one, it was a fantastic winter car. You can induce massive under or oversteer with just the throttle.
Need to tuck in at the apex? Just lift, point, then get back on the gas.

Wow that's better than me. My Mazda 323 has no A/C at all let alone a crappy one.

glad to hear you like it so much. I've always toyed around with the idea of picking up a 3.0i. If a coupe popped up near me I'd definitely bite.

Mine is fine
Maybe your AC needs servicing

A 3.0i coupe?? Those don't go up for sale very often, sadly. I would love one.

The AC in the Vue and Silverado will freeze you to death. I've started shivering they get so cold. I don't remember how cold the Safari's AC gets, since it's been at least 6 years since it would hold a Freon charge.
I will agree though, my girlfriend's '02 Taurus gets pretty frosty.

I've done some research on E90post and it seems like I'm not the only one having this problem. Next time I'm at the shop I'll tell them to check it out.
Then again, my car sits outside in the sun 24/7 and is grsphite on black, so obviously the AC is gonna have some trouble cooling me down. I'm tinting it soon (just need to find a convenient time and get the exemption waiver signed off) so I'll see if that makes a difference next summer.

you can find them for decent prices, but you have to be willing to travel. I'm still hoping one will pop up in my area, I've never even seen a non M coupe around me.

Once you've been driving for 5-10 minutes is your car cool inside? It should be. If not then there is something wrong. It will take a while to cool down with no tint when parked outside. But once it's been running it should be fine. My E90 is totally fine and So Cal can be an utter hell hole on some days. I'd probably rate my E90's A/C above the 997's A/C on a really hot day.
![]() 09/10/2014 at 18:36 |

Yeah after 5-10 minutes on Max (or near it) it's cool, but you still feel hot because you've basically been sitting in a burning car for 5 minutes. I always rolled my windows down for a few minutes before leaving my house to help.
![]() 09/10/2014 at 18:37 |

I don't think any car can solve that problem! All cars need time if they've been sitting outside roasting. All you can do is tint the windows, use a sun shade, and roll the windows down a bit before leaving

I'll be doing all that next summer! Sounds like it should work like a charm too..
